Basically it deserves its reputation and it would be worth every photogs time to learn it. Initially I didn't think I would ever use Photoshop but since it came with the subscription I have been trying it out and learning it. Buying both those standalone is quite expensive and makes the subscription look like pretty good value.

The subscription model is a bit off putting, but it allows you to use the software on 2 computers and you get both Lightroom and Photoshop. I just can't get as good of results as quickly and efficiently with anything else. Once I finally tried Lightroom and Photoshop, I was hooked. I tried all kinds of alternatives including the free open source raw editors on Linux. My thought is that if the folks here use them its probably safe. However, I know there are several free programs that the fine folks here on the forums use and I was hoping for a list of them and maybe a ranking of how they compare to adobe/corel. Nothing like paying good money to be advertised to. By the way Corel has now embedded adverts for upcoming programs in its new software. I don't want to go to Adobe as i don't like the subscription model (which is why I went with corel) and I am also wary of freeware as it often like to advertise to you without you wanting it too. Well for after shot pro 3 anyway Paint Shop Pro X9 seems to work fine. I have a feeling that nothing will be accomplished and I will end up with bad software that i can't get a refund for. Needless to say, I am very skeptical of anyone accessing my computer remotely due to privacy and safety concerns (perhaps I am just getting old too). I am currently in a support loop to try and get some of my concerns resolved, and they have told me they want to remote in and look at my computer.
I recently upgraded to After Shot Pro 3 and was quite disappointed by it. For the last 3 years I have been using some version of Corel Paint shop Pro, and After shot pro.
